A state legislator under indictment for his role in a tollwayland deal has become the latest Illinois politician to use hiscampaign funds to pay his legal bills.
Rep. Joseph S. Kotlarz (D-Chicago), accused by a DuPage Countygrand jury earlier this year of improperly sharing in a real estatecommission, has spent $27,057 in campaign funds on his legal defense,records show.
Kotlarz joins former U.S. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski, former 1stWard alderman Fred B. Roti and ex-Cook County Circuit Court ClerkMorgan Finley on a growing list of politicians relying on campaigndonors to help them fight criminal prosecutions. Kotlarz declinedcomment.
