Fed: MP warns of inaction on missile countermeasures
A Labor MP says Australian airlines flying to high risk destinations should be fittedwith technology designed to counter an attack by shoulder-launched missiles.
ARCH BEVIS, a former Opposition defence spokesman, says the danger's been highlightedby the arrest of a man in the US who had offered a Russian-name missile to people he believedwere terrorists.
Mr BEVIS says it's negligent of the government not to take action to install missilecounter-measures.
He says a missile attack on an airliner has already occurred.
In November, al-Qaeda terrorists unsuccessfully fired two missiles at an Israeli aircraftin East Africa.
Mr BEVIS says other important civil aircraft such as Air Force One, used to transportthe President of the United States, have counter-measures installed.
