SA: Former Sydney psychiatrist to give evidence in murder trial

A deregistered Sydney psychiatrist will take the witness stand today to defend himself
against allegations that he shot dead South Australia's mental health chief.

Forty-eight-year-old JEAN ERIC GASSY from southern Sydney's Oyster Bay will start his
defence today for the murder of MARGARET TOBIN.

GASSY, who is representing himself during the trial, says he'll be calling on his parents
as witnesses, along with providing evidence himself.

He's pleaded NOT guilty to murdering Dr TOBIN on October the 14th, 2002.

Dr TOBIN was shot in the back four times while stepping out of a lift at her office
block in central Adelaide.

The prosecution, which ended its case last week after calling more than 100 witnesses,
has alleged GASSY shot Dr TOBIN because of the role she played in having him deregistered.
