QLD: Former MP dies
BRISBANE, April 23 AAP - The former state Labor parliamentarian for Cairns, Ray Jones,
has died after a long illness.
Mr Jones was the member for the north Queensland seat from 1965 until 1983 and held
a number of shadow portfolios.
Premier Peter Beattie said Mr Jones had been a Labor stalwart during difficult years
for the party.
"He was always a strong advocate for Cairns and north Queensland and he won the respect
of the Labor Party and the people he served," Mr Beattie said.
The premier extended his sympathy the late member's widow Faye and family.
